Haiku Stairs AKA "Stairway to Heaven" Oahu,HI

What uperz! It's yo boy Bern at it again.
Toughest accomplishment me and my wife as ever done together. Hands down.

So we woke up at 2:00am to convoy up with a guy that i meet on IG to take us to the start of the trail (btw, this guy hike's this trail every day). Waking up this early was to make sure we get pass the security guard that post on the bottom of the stairs, but before we got to that section we had to park in a residential area.  When parking we notice 2 other couples trying to locate the entrance, so they just followed along behind us. Carefully not slamming the car doors, neighbors in this area tend to call the cops immediately when they notice any hikers. Walked about a 2 blocks to the first gate, only way around it was through the side, which was a muddy slope. To Slippery to climb, we had to use bent bamboo tress to help us up. At the top of the slope we walked another 15-20min to the 2nd gate, this was where the guard sleeps (lol). We went around the 2nd gate to start the first step of the stairs. The stairs seemed very easy at first as i was thinking its just stairs, just go up......till it started going vertical (like a ladder) and narrow. Now i know why this was an illegal hike and the city closed it down. Looking back the drop was insane, my wife and i had a few moments that we debated of turning back around. Other couples that got to the hike before us was actually giving up, so this did not really motivate us to keep going. My wife had a moment at this point and we calmed our heart rate. I told my wife (who was in front of me) to keep your eyes on the steps and don't look down...just step by step. There are a total of 4 platform to this hike. My wife had her mind set to the 1st platform which she made it, very proud of her! When we got to the 1st platform i really debated on going to the top. My wife encouraged me to Finish it. After 3,922 steps at the elevation 2,800 feet i reached the top!

On this trip we visited Jumbo Rocks campground located in the Joshua Tree National park, California. This was my first trip as well as the rest of the group. We were really surprised and super stoked about the landscapes. Upon entering Joshua Tree I was blown away with the beauty and majesty of this desert oasis. The huge rock formations and the abundance of Joshua Tree's was a sight to see.
